Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind;
the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind.
— Henry James

Happy New Year! The new year is a time for self-reflection, to
remember the events of last year; our blessings and our challenges
and then to think of the possibilities of this year, with its
fresh start.

Kay decided to make this year's resolution about kindness. She
felt an act of kindness, whether simple or extravagant, could
change a person's life, and the world for the better. She wanted
to make being kind, her way of living, her lifestyle choice. She
strove to make a conscience effort to do one kind thing every day,
for someone, the collective welfare, or the planet.

It can be easy to be kind to people close to us. Real kindness
encompasses all people. Kay decided to volunteer more time and
donate more on a monthly basis to charitable organizations.

A timely and important act of kindness, Kay felt, was to continue
to pressure Congress to tighten gun laws, to ban the sale of
military style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips.

By being kind, you realize that all beings are one. What harm one
does, to others, they do to themselves. What good one does, to
help another, they do to themselves. Kindness gives dignity to
everyone. It's a win-win situation.
